Really fun game if you used to play it when it was popular. If you didn't play this game when it came out originally, then I wouldn't recommend it at all. SWBF2 hasn't aged well, but I'll always have a special place for it in my heart. In SWBF2 you play the battles in the Star Wars movies, which are the first three, new hope, empire strikes back, return of le jedi. And there is also the prequels. The battles are either on foot fire-fight, or space battle. The gamemodes are like deathmatch, king of the hill, assault etc etc etc. The fire-fight battles are usually plaid on assault, which is like spawning at different spawns and then trying to capture the other team's spawns. There are, I think 6 different classes, which are like; standard soldier with a blaster, engineer, sniper, minigun guy, wookie, and the other unlockable guy that varies from army to army.
Pretty much the gameplay is shooting the enemies or shooting the enemies in a ground ship. Which doesn't sound bad because that's what all shooting games do, but SWBF2 kind of does them in the most bland way possible. The kills don't really feel that rewarding and getting killed is pretty easy, because there are jedis. Jedis make this game though, it's so much fun mowing down hordes of droids as obi-wan. Playing as a jedi is very much like playing the old jedi knights games, very similair gameplay. The ground wars are not that great, to be honest. But got damn the space battles are pretty fun for me. You spawn in a hangar, and you only have two options for classes, which are pilot and soldier. But you can just fly ships from your hangar and then shoot down enemy ships from the opposing hangar in SPACE. The goal in space battle is to pretty much ♥♥♥♥ up the enemy ship as much as possible, and taking down enemy ships. Also you can land in the enemy's hangar and then kill them in their own spawn. Seriously though, the space battle gameplay blows the ground war gameplay out of the water in my honest opinion. But keep the AI in mind..
The AI in the singleplayer is so bad.. Like the worst I've ever seen. And the multiplayer is active, but still there is pretty limited choices for servers. The groundwar gameplay in SWBF2 is very bland, and the AI is also just so bad... It honestly ruins any singleplayer fun for me. Space battles aren't so bad in singleplayer, but they still feel kind of boring. So yeah, I'd stick to multiplayer.
What makes SWBF2 great; are the maps and the jedis. Without the detailed maps like hoth, jabba's palace, endor, mos eisly... oh gaaawd mos eisly.. The jazzy horns playing while doing hero assault... such nostalgia... The other maps are pure gold as well.. The giant hoth mission, huge ♥♥♥ AT ATs, tontons?, flying ships to take the AT ATs down.. Or jabba's palace? Jabba is there, han's prison mold thing, mandalorians, actual rancor.. The list goes on. If you're a fan of Star Wars then you'll at least enjoy SWBF2 for its maps, and the characters.
All in all, this is an old game which hasn't aged too well... But with great maps, and great character design. I'd stongly recommend it to anyone who used to play it, when SWBF2 was in its prime, or to people who enjoyed jedi knights. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it to anyone else. I'm feeling a strong 7, to a light 8 on this one.
Y'all know this is just my opinion right?
